Ten minute install
Same old problem with aging cars, they slowly break down or things quit working correctly. One day the rear hatch struts on my mini just failed. Looked like a fix I could do so called the dealer for the price of a pair. Told it would be $75 each. Went right to Amazon and found these, two for less than 1/3 the price of one OEM strut.Removal and installation was a breeze. Removed the clip on each end of the strut and it popped right out. Put the new strut on the ball connection and pushed, once on each end. Done. Repeat on the other side, job done. Hardest part of the job was looking for a board to support the hatch while I worked on the struts. People have mentioned that the strut ends are angled. Yep they're angled but work just fine. Another problem is the struts not being the same length as originals. Not sure why there is a difference, but one original strut is a bit shorter and one is the same length. Bottom line they work. Now to see for how long. Originals lasted about 15 years, so $10 a year. If the replacement last at least 2 years I'd be happy, that'll be about $11 a year. If they go 3 years I'll be making money, and if the car dies before the struts I'll be singing the praises of smart shopping. Really good for old rides where you want to same some bucks.Ok I found one minor annoyance, the struts are a bit stronger than originals. When opening hatch it will snap open at the end of the lift. Will have to support hatch at end of travel to prevent the thunk.
