Glad I Bought These Santa Cruz Racks
First, I LOVE LOVE these racks for my 2022 Santa Cruz Limited. It took 2-3 weeks to get them. The instructions are a bit blurred. Too many cryptic pictures on 1 paper. Where you will stumble, the instructions are worthless. You are given a hex key and a star key tool. The first few steps in the instructions are worth while. Read this and you won't need the paperHope you have pockets to keep track of 8 screws, 2 4 inch tools, and 2 keys on a split ring.1. Press the right and left corner of the plastic square in the end piece to release the lock cover.2. Use padlock key, remove lock cover on all 4 end pieces.3. Using flat surface (not in top of vehicle), use hex key and loosen the 2 bolts below the lock area but do NOT totally remove them, do this 4 times on all the end pieces.4. Fit the the long and short bar into a set of ends, they are all the same.5. Long bar in the ends, flip upside down and put the chunky screw in the hole. You want this bar to be as long as possible, choose the screw hole to accomplish this. Just put 1 screw for now on both ends. The 2nd screw is later on.6. Dry fit the long bar with ends screwed on to the roof towards front. The thin side of bar should be facing the hood. The yellow sticker on bar should also face the hood.7. When your happy, take bar off roof, flip bar over, put in 2nd star screw in both ends. You should only have 4 screws left for short bar.8. Flip over, install again where you passed the dry fit. Use hex key and hand tighten in both end pieces.Phew, first bar done until you decide to change the spacing. Last step....9. Insert padlock key into the lock cover you removed in Step 1. Line up this cover to the end of the bar end piece. Lock the cover to the end piece. Mess with it until you win. I had just 1 give me an issue9. Button up the black hanging plastic lock cover by pressing the top and bottom listening for click sounds. Align the tabs before you click in place10. Repeat the process for the short bar that goes behind the long bar. Short bar is closest to truck bed. Make sure the thin side of short bar faces the hood. Double check when you see yellow sticker on it.On short bar when you flip it over to insert 1 chunky star screw, make the bar short as possible B4 putting first screw in. After you pass cry fit, remove, sink the 2nd screw, install on roof, hand tighten hex bolts, attach lock cover with key, click in lock coverThe front long bar does NOT interfere with sun roof when cracked or fully open. You decide where the bars go. Mine are for show, so I set my long bar to line up with the black plastic window divider panel (side view).I think I spaced 15 inches or so between the long and short bar. Great news, is it's so simple to adjust if at a later time you want to change the spacing.Take the instructions, and your 2 hand tools and put in a quart baggie. Mark the bag with permanent marker. Place this rack goodie bag with your car manuals (under seat) is good place :-)Btw, I am 65 y.o. female 5 ft 1'. I used a step stool, removed my watch and bracelet to avoid scratching the paint.

A few things…
First, I hadn’t seen another review mention this, but it will save you a lot of time. One is longer than the other. The longer goes on the front. The shorter on. The rear. Second, it says to install “where suitable.” Not helpful. Install them over the holes for OEM ones that exist on the rail. You’ll see them. Third,, when you are tightening the cross bars onto your rails, I suggest pressing down on the cross bars onto at the same time. Otherwise, with the bar not seated well enough, the cross bars clamp will slip off the rail. Lastly, don’t forget to tighten the 2 screws on the cross bars onto itself. If you don’t, your load will slide around when driving.I uploaded pics of the instructions that come with these. They leave a lot of context out, but are decent overall. Installation is super easy and once you get going, you likely won’t even use the instructions toward the end. Some folks complained about not being key locked, but how many folks are walking around with hex head wrenches in their pocket? Furthermore, the key lock portion locks the cover onto the cross bars. That means they can’t get access to the hex head bolts to remove the cross bars. So, I’d argue these are plenty secure. The look is great. I didn’t want ends sticking beyond the car. And I wanted black. So, these are what I chose. I’ve only driven around town with them so far and haven’t had noticeable noise out of them. If that changes as I go to faster speeds, I’ll come back here and update the review.

look good and are very secure
Once installed they loo really good.Installation was not without its challenges. First you really need a cordless screwdriver with the correct bit for the install screws. Having that made the install a lot easier. The install went smoothly. The bars on not really adjustable in width. There is some wiggle room there but because the bars are screwed into the assembly you are limited by the location of the screw holes. I set them at maximum width and just moved them back and forth on the roof until the width of the rood and the width of the rack were equal. There is one bar that is longer than the other. Put that one in front. The cross bars themselves also have a front and back. Pay attention to that during installThe problem I had was getting the covers back on. The rotating lock would not go back all the way into the receptacle. Two of them made it back in. The other two required a file to trim back the rotating piece itself and even them I used a rubber mallet to persuade the rotating piece to engage.I will only take them off under duress. If there was a way to put the covers back on without locking them I would have done that. I was afraid of losing the covers if they were not locked.I am only using them to move my surfboard or SUP to the beach which is 5 minutes away. Regardless of the install problem I still like them. I saw Lexus roof rack for about twice the price. These look just like themCordless screwdriver, some silicone spray, rubber mallet , metal file. They look good and the are certainly secure

Use the Key...
These riser and cross-bars are actually easy to install. For those of you struggling with the first step of removing the covers? USE THE KEYS!! A counter clockwise turn will release the tumbler and cover right from the riser frames. Lock comes off WITH with the cover. They don't tell you that in the instructions, but that's how it's done. If you have taken the covers off using punk rock power you have broken the plastic that is attached to the lock tumbler. This can be fixed by heating up a flat-head screwdriver and melting/fusing the BACK of the plastic cover together. Bob Ross that shea...
