Just received my copy of VanDam’s Road Map & Top 40+ Drives. A beautiful road map of the continental U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, and the southern part of Canada. The 40+ guide includes a succinct thumbnail description (where you’ll be going, what’s special, and the distance) and photo of each of the 42 drives. The guide (and the map) includes a drive in the Arctic Circle (Alaska). It is a large, folded paper map with satin finish that shows you the big picture of your land and my land. A little yellow rectangular “speech” bubble marks each drive on the map. It also contains a mileage distances chart, which is very helpful for planning. Nothing beats being there. I’m dreaming of an electrical vehicle large enough for a group (or 2 or 3 families), to go on the “Fjords, Whales and Wine” drive along the St. Lawrence River.Over the years, I’ve accumulated VanDam maps of various cities: NYC, Mexico City, Tokyo, Paris—slick laminated maps that open like accordions with crystal clear text in elegant, proportionally-sized font size that intuitively denotes larger districts and smaller neighborhoods. I’ve learned so much from these maps about each of the cities—thank you, Mr. VanDam. This is a great addition to my collection. Please keep making maps for us.

This map is so engaging! It’s got top attractions and drives. Top drives are highlighted and the colors are so vivid; I want to spend lots of time studying it. Even my 10 year old is excited about reading this map.

GPS is great but I travel in my motorhome and internet doesn't always work. This map is great for an emergency.

This map is more than a map, it is also a very compact and comprehensive tour guide for active travelers who would like to explore different parts of the United States. It suggests 40 top drives, six of which we have previously explored on our own. This map/guide gives us new ideas for future road trips. It is ideal also for students and others embarking on a gap year or time out from busy schedules. We are already planning it for inclusion in a graduation package for our grandson. As we said, more than a map, it is indeed a complete guide to all of the United States.

I have driven a handful of these routes - Historic route 66, the Railroad Towns of Texas, the Trails of the Ancients when I lived in the southwest - The Badlands Loop and Iron Mountain Rd on trips across country. The million Dollar Drive when skiing in Colorado. The Lighthouse Towns and Maple Leaves and Skis since returning to the northeast. I didn't set out to follow vanDam - it's just that in retrospect I've taken drives that vanDam drove. I guess what I'm getting at is this - I don't know how he/she/they have covered so much territory - but no matter. I trust these recommendations and know that when I am next on the road, I will go out of my way to follow the advice of vanDam. He/she/they know the beauties along the open road and have given us a guide to find them.RIchard B

Bought because the description says laminated. We need something we can draw our route on, then erase for the next trip.Lots of useful info. But NOT laminated. Do NOT use dry erase or ink!We finally tried erasable colored pencils. Even that removes a bit of background when you erase ...the others DO NOT erase.

Not great but a pretty good highway. I always find it interesting using quality maps, what one brand will/will not show vs another. Using TWO name brand maps we navigated successfully. It’s a habit now on any trip…..TWO maps from TWO different companies.
