Too much
There is a lot about this book that is really good, and a lot of things are set up for later or explained in the past, but there is too much going on.As a continuity lover, I am really glad that elements of Batman Knight, the 3 Joker's, and the Joker's personalities are brought together. However, this book is all over the place. The different artwork to show what era (past, earlier present, or present) the book was set in, but it is still very easy to get lost in this book. This book touches on Zur-En-Arrh, Failsafe, early currupt Gotham, returns from the Gotham War (I think not quite an explanation), the fall out from the Gotham War, the Bat Family, the Joker and more??? It is too much for one book. This is trying to read 4 books/stories at the same time. I have faith that Chip Zdarsky will bring everything together in the end, but wow, I have no idea how, especially with all the other stuff coming up in the DCU. The book finishes with a varient covers gallery.

Not the best read
I felt like the narrative didn’t flow as well as other titles. The art style was great throughout but not my favourite book.In terms of the delivery, perfect condition and arrived on time.

Chip Zdarsky is a Great Batman Writer
This collection wisely puts the Mind Bomb and Joker: Year One twin arcs of Chip Zdarsky together, which fleshes out this storyline in its entirety with a strong link to the Failsafe and Batman of Gotham arcs. Mind Bomb focuses on Batman's struggle with his multiverse psyches, Zur En Arrh, alongside his struggle with The Joker. Joker: Year One presents Chip's own Joker origin with reverence to Moore's The Killing Joke and Synder's Year Zero with Red Hood aspects, along with Bat Family cameos and the chaotic aspects of the Joker presented in a multiverse story form.Chip constructs his own microcosmic Batman mythos within the larger 80+ year DC collection of Batman takes. He continues to build on what he started with Batman: The Knight for a consuming and multifaceted saga. The way he's brought in various mentors of The Batman, included a fascinating reinterpretation of Zur En Arrh, and reconstructed so many Batman characters is breathtaking and entertaining. I think Chip Zdarsky and Mariko Tamaki are my favorite "early 2020's" Batman writers. They're both experimental in a balanced way and heavy on plot, characterization, and convincing/believable dialogue unlike Tom King and others who aren't my thing. Both writers can move a story forward without too much repetition and the same panel tricks (unlike TOM KING, to be repetitive). Chip and Tamaki both collaborate with great artists and they've done a lot to push the mythos of Batman forward while keeping it within a believable continuity. In contrast, the great Chaos God Morrison was too experimental and edgy for me; Chip and Mariko are just right. At first, I thought this arc of Chip's, Joker Year One, went a little off the road with Chip's multiverse obsession (which worked so well in The Batman of Gotham as I do like his multiverse additions!), but after a reread many months later with this collected volume format, paired with Mind Bomb... I actually love it.Chip pushes this idea that Joker and Batman share a mentor from his Knight series... and as wild and off as this particular arc plot originally seemed to me when I read the individual issues, I still love Chip's writing and ideas, as well as the thought and flow that he puts into characters. This third? Chip Batman arc grew on me and I like it as much as the others. It's worth owning this and I enjoy the beautiful art. Highly recommend this!
