Good value for Quality Imaging on a Budget
The camera is very easy to set up and use. I don't yet have the USB 3.0 port on my laptop, but the camera worked fine thru my 2.0 ports. As specified, I installed SharpCap 3.2 and the camera was recognized right away. I tested it through a small telescope with terrestrial objects to become familiar with the capture controls. I was able to work with my 10" Meade LX200 classic several nights, but I want to get it out more if these tropical storms will quit coming through VA. I used the camera at prime focus, both with and without a 2X Barlow. I got better results without so far, especially since I found that my scope is out of collimation and size just exacerbates poor alignment. I took lots of capture clips of up to 2 minutes, which for Mars resulted in around 4000 frames to work with (less for Saturn since I needed a longer exposure). Instead of using Registax, I stacked them with Autostakkert, which IMHO is far easier to work with than Registax. I then used Registax to do some wavelet processing, but given the poor seeing conditions and my scope's poor collimation, the results are still blurred. Not the fault of the camera, which brought out what it could from poor raw material. I have done a daylight collimation and am waiting for the next clear night to check it out and refine as necessary. I planned on using this camera as a stopgap measure until I get a better one, but so far I don't think I will need to upgrade.Update: I like the camera a lot, but it has two things that I don't like:1. The barrel is too short for the setscrew to hit in some of my eyepiece holders, so it it hard to secure.2. I hate hate hate the USB cable, which is so stiff that if I do anything with my laptop, the vibration travels up the cable to the camera and shakes it. Not a problem of the camera itself. I will have to get a cable with braided wires.Update 2-25-23: I still am having good success with the camera, and wanted to add some more recent pix (Fall 22 thru present) They should be the better looking ones.
