Quality unit from a reputable company - worth the money
Outstanding design and construction by Honeywell. I work in industrial product design, so have a critical eye on these things.I've bought loads of cheapo "branded" bells in the past. This one is by a respected company: the extra money buys you a better, quality-controlled product. Some points1. Bell push is nice quality, proper circular O ring weather seal on the battery compartment. The compartment can be easily removed using a coin in the deep groove on the battery cover. Good quality plastic used in wall mount backing plate, weatherproof stainless steel screws supplied to mount these to your door, and quality 3M self adhesive pad also supplied (I chose not to use this). These things make a difference, no rust runs from zinc screws down your door in 2 years time due miserly screw selection. Red ring illumination for visitor to confirm the bell push is working.2. Ringer unit is compact, very nicely designed and assembled, with a quality wall mount bracket (I chose not to use this), and the base of the unit has non-slip feet to hold it in place on a shelf. Super loud through to super quiet - you choose, and also pick your ring tone. Flashing LEDs on top for hard of hearing. High quality unit3. Nice package design by Honeywell. Lithium coin cells for each of the bell puses, 4xAA required for the ringer unit. I've read complaints about the instructions. I never read them, it's pretty obvious what to do with the unit. However, after fitting it, I read them to understand what the complaints were about. In my opinion, they are excellent - all pictures, self explanatory, cuts down on the product cost through only having to print one type of instruction. Plus further assistance online and on the phone from Honeywell should you need it.It's worth paying a bit more, and buying a quality product, rather than lots of semi disposable garbage. Honeywell should take pride in the obvious care they have take in making this unit (there is quite a range of bells available from them now). Well done to the product designers and engineers. Let's support industry by chosing to pay for quality, instead of a race to the bottom on price.

Bought 2 and work well!
I already had a wired and illuminated bell with the original old home transformer saying it was rated upto 5 amps. My old chime was a mechanicaI one and not very loud so I bought 2 of these and was able to wire the first in place of the old chime and extend the wiring to then add the 2nd chime at the back of the house. Wiring from transformer to 1st chime is around 15 metres. Then around 7 metres from 1st to 2nd chime. The units were simple enough to install although I'm quite handy at DIY so didn't expect a challenge. But that said, the instructions aren't great and definitely ensure you use solid core bell wire as the push fit connectors don't like stranded wire. Both work as expected and are nice and loud, and you can adjust the volume or lighting as needed. My illuminated bell still works. So if anyone is wondering if you can install 2 with a single transformer, the answer is yes. A lot cheaper than a video doorbell, smart looking unit, and sufficiently loud. Exactly what I wanted.

Backplate is awful, otherwise good
Replaced an old mechanical bell, and purchased this as going by reviews here it seemed to be the only unit with decent volume! Works fine with our old transformer, and volume is spot-on - audible, but not heart attack-inducing like the old one.The downsides: the quality of the 'manual' - a card full of pictures - made figuring out the settings on the unit difficult. (Hint: if you have two bell pushes, changing the chime tone changes the tone for the last-pressed bell push.) At least the wiring diagram was accurate and useful, the problems I had were due to the rat's nest like quality of our existing wiring, not this unit (as I remember I had to steal an always-on live from somewhere.)The biggest issue is the "tool-less" backplate. These things are always awful, and as others have described, one of the release catches broke. Fortunately the wire still makes a good connection. Standard brass screw-in terminals would be infinitely better. It also makes the main unit stand proud from the wall by 1-2mm, not a problem if it is at floor level, but in our case the old bell and wiring are above head height, and it looks odd.Basically, this is in many ways a good product, but it needs revising to correct a few issues. The manufacturer also really ought to offer free replacement backplates to those who need them.

Installation almost impossible
The installation of the bell push wire was almost impossible, it took several attempts to get a reliable connection. Connecting terminal design very poor, as were the installation instructions. Many of the product reviews said the same thing, being a retired electronics engineer I thought it can't be that difficult, I was wrong and the reviews were correct.Once I finally manage to complete the installation the bell is great, neat, compact and adequate volume.

Great Doorbell Kit
I was looking for a wired bell, not really impressed with the wireless options available, but wanted one with some volume control, I found this and immediately ordered, it's been wired up, the volume has been turned down, the light disabled and I now longer feel the need to leap off the sofa when someone decides to lean on the bell, the times my dinner has hit the floor from the shock!!If you're looking for a nice muted ring, this is the bell for you!!Update....The bell itself was fine, however the backplate was a little flimsy, it had to be removed for decorating purposes and the connections were so fine, they all broke, so had to purchase another bell purely for the backplate, I finally got it done with a lot of fiddling, but I will likely never have to remove it again (except to replace the batteries) now I know how delicate it is, I will show a little more restraint, great bell nevertheless.
