Most Famous Baseball Franchise
Excellent read about the Yankees franchise from early 1970’s until now. Great insights into the key people who developed the infrastructure, intelligence, scouting, and thought processes applied to generate a winning tradition! This book also shares how Brian Cashman and others started with the Yankees, how they managed and navigated around George Steinbrenner, and continue to make decisions today to give the Yankees chances to win. Five star read!

Good Baseball History and Analysis, though a Bit too Favorable to Cashman
This is a interesting account of Yankee management over the past 40 years, told through the story of Cashman's rise and reign. Martino is perhaps a little too favorable to Cashman, though his performance on the whole has been quite good. What is not mentioned is the extent to which the Yankees no longer have the clear advantage in spending and are even outspent by a few select teams. Also very interesting is the discussion of the different approaches Judge and Jeter took to being captain and clubhouse leader. Judge is positive and beloved, much like Mantle. Jeter is bit more cold and aloof, and lead by negative reinforcement, much like Dimaggio. Both styles can work, but Judge seems to be the more admirable person.

Add it to the list of other great Yankees books
I love the Yankees of the 90s so anything about them, I'm not just reading it, I'm devouring it. My only issue with this book, is that the author keeps jumping around in the timeline. He'll start a chapter talking about 2003, but he hasn't covered the 2001 or 2002 season yet, he's almost giving a sneak peak into what's coming in the following chapter. It just kind of got confusing. Other than that, it's a fantastic read. I loved his book on the Astros cheating scandal and this one is right up there with other Yankees books about this era. Looking forward to reading his next book!
