I wouldn’t do it. It’s artificial fur.

It doesn't have a padding. Its a thick fur that makes it look like it has a padding when you touch or step on it. The bottom has like a sheep skin feel like so it wont skid when you you it on the wooden floor. Hope this helps

If it is a wood burning fireplace I would not put any rug near where it an catch an ember ,etc. If it is a faux fireplace run electrically than any rug should be safe. This is a fluffy fur-like rug so just use common sense.
