The Business of Audio Engineering (Music Pro Guides)

The secret side you MUST know.
This is a very unique book in the field. It's not about equipment or famous records, or how to mix drums. It's about getting along with people, taking the steps to success, learning how to negotiate the water so you can survive and thrive. Hampton has a lot of experience, from small projects to huge. I read his previous book but this one is even better; you learn how to negotiate deals, how to make a fair contract, when to walk away. You learn about personalities and tempers, which are probably more important than any technical skills you have. This is literally the secret stuff that rarely gets talked about by people in the business but everybody has to deal with it. Even one page in this book could save you thousands of dollars, or turn you away from a project that could really ruin you. Highly recommended stuff!

Great book by a brilliant engineer
Dave Hampton is one of the greats in audio engineering, and hangs around in a circle of greats. No wonder that the book is loaded with experiences and insights that only Dave could provide. Highly recommended for anyone in (or thinking about being in) the recording industry.
