Great for cooking!
This shiitake powder really adds depth of flavor to soups, sauces, and most anything where umami might boost the flavor profile. At 2.1 ounces, this package is on the small side, however a little goes a long way so this can be stretched to last a while if you are careful. The powder tastes really nice in many recipes that you wouldn't think of adding it to (I added it to the beef mixture used to make meatballs and the result was quite nice... not a mushroom/dirt flavor that most would assume). Overall, I'm very pleased with this powder and can't wait to try it in more dishes.

strong umami
If you like dried shitake taste or smell, this would be good for you. I do. It adds a richness to everything I cook, instead of reaching for the chicken boullion I use this one more now.

Very mild
I admit, I don't cook Japanese enough to be super good with this.And I had a really hard time figuring out how much to use. It's not strongly umami (as a truffle thing might be). And it's ground finely enough that mixing it into a stew took a bit of work.But that said, It gently added to the flavor of the dish in an earthy, mushroomy way.

Enhances flavor of dishes
By simply adding a tablespoon of this Japanese shitake mushroom powder to soups or stir fry, it really enhances the taste. The stir fry has a rich umami flavor and the soup savory. The powder dissolves easily with no clumps. It is vegan friendly and makes a healthier substitute for chicken bouillon. It is now a pantry staple for my household.

Amazing Umami flavor
Yes, I am that person that has all different kind of salts, but I also make my own flavored salts. I made porcini (Bolete mushroom) salt and just loved, loved the flavor that I knew I had to make Shiitake mushroom Salt. I took 2 tablespoons of this shiitake mushroom powder and added it to 4 tablespoons of flake sea salt. Put it in a spice grinder – heaven! I now can use it on everything to get an amazing umami flavor. I took a look at the included recipes, which look fabulous, but every recipe had 1 tablespoon of shiitake powder, so this packet will only make 4 dishes. Just a heads up that it will go fast.

Yummy addition for soups and casseroles
This shiitake powder has been perfect as a supplemental flavor for the soups and casseroles we make. It adds a certain something that makes everything more delicious. I appreciate the care taken to produce this product too, since I know this type of mushroom isn't super easy to grow - but they have done it, and done it well so that I can be comfortable with the quality and taste.

Horrible product
These were the most horrible shiitakes I have ever tasted, consistency was basically like wood even cooked, we had to discard of the entire package, very disappointed. This needs to be taken off the market!

Excellent way to add umami flavor.
I absolutely love using this shiitake powder on various things such as fried rice, ramen, or even noodle soups. It's a great way of adding a nice umami taste to your food since this is basically natural msg. This comes in a nice sealed pouch and comes with a scooper which is nice. I personally think scooper is a bit too big since you only need a little of this powder to enhance the flavor of your food.
