Manufacturer's Description Canon's next generation D-SLR: the EOS 400D. Featuring a 10.1 Megapixel CMOS sensor, new EOS Integrated Cleaning System, larger and brighter 2.5 LCD and 9-point AF, the model is predicted to take the lead as the world's most popular camera. It is positioned above the EOS 350D, currently the fastest selling SLR camera of all time.Improved PerformanceThe EOS 400D incorporates a number of developments over the EOS 350D. Resolution increases from 8.0 to 10.1 Megapixels, using the superior hi-sensitivity, hi-speed, low-noise CMOS technology now found in all six EOS Digital models. At nearly twice the size of the EOS 350D display, the 2.5 hi-resolution LCD is the brightest in the EOS range and now displays all of key shooting and user interface information along with image playback. The AF system expands from 7 to 9-point, with a highly sensitive f/2.8 center point for exceptional performance in low light. Even with the image resolution increase, maximum frame burst almost doubles from 14 to 27 large JPEGs and from 5 to 10 RAW.Dust reductionThe EOS 400D is the first camera to incorporate the EOS Integrated Cleaning System. Based on significant research into the causes of dust in D-SLR cameras, the system combats dust in three important ways: Minimise, Repel and Remove.1. MinimiseInternal camera mechanisms are designed to minimise dust generation. The body cap is redesigned to prevent dust generation through wear on the cap itself.2. RepelAnti-static technologies are applied to the low-pass filter covering the front of the sensor so as not to attract dust.3. RemoveA Self-Cleaning Sensor Unit uses hi-frequency vibrations to shake dust from the low pass filter for a period of approximately one second after each start up. For instant shooting after power up, this feature is disabled immediately the shutter release is depressed.Canon has also developed an internal Dust Delete Data system, which can map the position of any visible dust on the sensor. This can then be deleted automatically after the shoot with Digital Photo Professional software. The EOS advantageThe EOS 400D inherits a number of advanced features proven in higher-end EOS models, such as the EOS 30D and 5D. These include its 9-point AF system, Picture Styles (see Appendix: Technologies Explained), 9,999 image capacity folders and expanded Pictbridge functionality. The EOS 400D also incorporates the same DIGIC II processor found across the EOS range right through to EOS 1 professional models (see Appendix 'Technologies Explained'). As well as providing superior image quality through advanced rendering algorithms and almost instant 0.2 second start up time, DIGIC II's accelerated processing prioritises the photographer's ability to keep shooting by clearing the buffer quickly between frame bursts.UpgradingThe upgrade path to the EOS 400D from earlier EOS models is made easy by maintaining the same intuitive user interface and basic layout of key features and functions. Photographers are also able to use the same battery and Battery Grip BG-E3 as used on the EOS 350D, as well as continued support for all EF and EF-S lenses, Speedlites and EOS accessories.SoftwareConsistent with the entire EOS Digital range, the EOS 400D is supplied with a comprehensive software suite to help the photographer's workflow. This includes Digital Photo Professional (DPP), a powerful RAW converter that provides complete RAW image processing control. DPP also integrates with camera features such as the Dust Delete Data and Picture Styles. The camera also comes with EOS Capture, Image/Zoom Browser and Photostitch, plus 100MB of personal online space on CANON iMAGE GATEWAY, Canon's online photo sharing service. Great DSLR to Begin With!
My first Digital SLR (or SLR of any type), chosen after many weeks of research (I looked at the 350D, Nikon D80, and Olympus E400 amongst others) - mostly because most of the people I knew were also chosing it.I was a little worried about the reported small size of the camera, given that I'm 6 feet tall and have hands that are in proportion! But I have to say, the camera feels very comfortable to me - and is easy to grip for long periods of time (although I will be investing in the battery grip for a little more stability). After a quick run through the user guide, I was up and out and shooting in Manual mode within minutes. It really is surprisingly easy to access and use the more advanced features - and I haven't used any of the Automatic modes since. The kit lens has also come in for a lot of criticism - and, yeah, it's definitely not the finest bit of kit. But that said, it will serve any newcomers (like myself) just fine, while you get up to speed - and then decide what you'd like to replace it with. Really for the extra £30 or £40 the kit costs, I think it's definitely worth it.Image quality seems outstanding to me - even the kit lens is okay, but using the much discussed bargain 50/1.8 lens really is a revelation. A definite must buy for any newcomer.Battery life seems excellent, although its always worth having a spare on hand when you're out and about. The on-LCD settings screen works really well - it's nice and bright and easy to see in the dark (unlike the old seperate mono settings window on the 350D and other cameras)Construction is the only thing I would slightly mark the camera down on - it could be better - the black finish on the front does seem to scuff quite easily from fingernails, and the like. But could it be better for this price? Probably not. It feels solid, which is about all you can ask for. Titanium would obviously be better, but would price the camera out of its current range. All in all, a lovely bit of kit - and a true bargain at the current price (around [...] for the body and kit lens). It's also useful having such a huge user base, as there's always someone somewhere you can ask for advice - and plenty of compatible second hand lens and accessory bargains to had.If you're looking to make the plunge into the world of DSLR, you could definitely do worse. I just can't put it down...

A very good camera
I come from a traditional SLR background, as well as using a few DSLRs, and have found this to be the easiest to use camera yet. The menu systems are very nicely organised, and newcomers to DSLRs will have no problems learning how to use it.It has a very nice array of features for a consumer-end DSLR, some of which have been taken from the top-end models. There are lots of negative posts on the internet proclaiming the 18-55mm kit lens bad, and that is simply not the case. The lens responds fast, and outputs high quality images - the colours are especially accurate in all the photos I've taken so far.In response to other complaints about the grip size, I have had no problems (although I don't have the biggest hands). It's a compact, lightweight (for a DSLR) camera, that you won't be dragged down by on long hikes, for example.I highly recommend this camera to both amateurs and professionals, as it provides many high-end features and quality photos in an easy to learn and operate design.

The camera itself is as expected, however what wasn't mentioned was that it came with no instruction manual or leads to link it to my computer all of which I had to purchase at extra cost.

What a great buy from Amazon
Advised by my son in US to purchase the EOS400d and have not regretted it for one minute. Good service from Amazon and all arrived promptly as advertised. Very quickly applied for and received the cash back from Canon which made the camera a bargain at £350. Lens suits me in a learning capacity Will possibly upgrade when knowledge and experience demand. Easy to operate and understand and have sent for DVD on camera to assist with knowledge and improve photos. At same time got the 430EX flashgun which obviously is a great improvement on the built in unit. All software loaded into home computer and just needs you to sit, study and learn to upload, store and print good quality photos. Have an Epson Stylus D68 PE printer which copes with printing demands from this cameraI do not think you need to look elsewhere for an extremely good, well made camera. Highly recommended.

Fotocamera Canon usata
