Short on how to “bring it” photos, packing tips
I liked the recipes, the tips, and the quality of the photos. But I had to take off a star because I was expecting more help in how to and what to pack something in to transport it. Except for one photo of Ali shoving a casserole into an insulated bag the majority only showed how to serve a recipe, and not even in a vessel that would travel well (ever try toting a Le Creuset French oven to a potluck?). Not one photo of a vintage picnic basket, a cute casserole tote, a Coleman or Yeti cooler, a retro pie or cake carrier, or reusable beeswax sandwich wrap, etc. Even I have a deviled egg carrier, a pie tote, and a modern useful Crate & Barrel cold salad potluck bowl!

Great for hectic weeknight dinners- and any plan ahead moments
The title insinuates this book might only be for bringing or hosting- but the added gem of this book, and all the delicious food it contains, is simply all the amazing “make ahead” advice! Ali tells you how far in advance you can make it, or even how to make the component parts for quick cooking or assembly later. Amazing for busy meals when you want something delicious and no effort in the moment. And on top of the tasty food and helpful advice, I want to travel with Ali! She tells welcoming stories of places she has been, and her food mementos from those places-such that she clearly eats well on the road! I loved getting that added inspiration for the foods I’m cooking, and feeling like I get to know Ali, too.Buy this book, you won’t be disappointed!

Not the best recipe book out there
The title of the book is misleading. “Potlucks and casual gatherings” made me think it was a book of casseroles and side dishes suitable for...I don’t know, potlucks and casual gatherings. All the recipes in THIS book feed 4-6 people, which is definitely not helpful for medium to large gatherings. Also, it is meant for “casual gatherings” of people with very specific, discerning pallets. Fig and rosemary crostini? Tahini lamb and rice? Are we really taking salmon cucumber bites or anchovy pasta to a church potluck? This book is perfect if you need to make dishes for small, upscale dinner parties or having your boss over for dinner. If you are a church goer, club member or participate in any organization that has frequent potlucks, this might not be as helpful as you’d think.

A cookbook for today’s style of preparing food and entertaining!!!!
I have followed Ali on Potuck Video for years and was very excited to buy a compilation of some of her favorite recipes!!! They are simple to follow, have easily procurable ingredients, appeal to all ages and are delicious! With today’s busy lifestyles, hosts or hostesses are often very happy to have guests bring something to a dinner party!! The recipes in Ali’s book are ideal for a stand alone appetizer or dessert or a complement to the main course!! I’ve taken two appetizers and a dessert from the cookbook to parties and they were well received!! So much so, that the guests wanted to buy a copy of the cookbook!! The photographs, personal anecdotes and suggestions for transporting and serving the items make this cookbook a must have!!

This is wonderful cookbook - easy to follow recipes that are both visually appealing and delicious. One of the best features of the book is that recipes are accompanied with a section on "how to bring it" - so often you cook a dish to take to a party and it looks perfect when you put it together at your home but doesn't travel well. This book helps you cook beautiful, tasty dishes and then explains how to show off the dishes in their best light when you actually arrive at your destination.

Ali Rosen successfully wrote a cookbook that is invaluable. The recipes are wonderful and I found it helpful and welcomed that she included how to "bring it" to the table. I know my way around the kitchen and yet I learned some new things reading her book.I treated myself to a copy and now that I have read it, tried some recipes, I am ordering more copies to give to my adult children who love to cook.

Easy-to-follow, delicious recipes
I can't express how much of a godsend this book is for the holidays and dinner parties we've had to bring dishes to. Not only are the recipes easy to follow, they really are a step up from your average dinner party dish. I made the bacon and mushroom quiche for Easter brunch and everyone ate it so fast, I didn't even get a chance to Instagram my beautiful dish. ;) This is a keeper for future party planning!
