A GEM of a Headphone Amp
One Star has to be knocked off because of the Chinese Garbage Tubes it comes with. The Audioromy 6v6 is an upgrade for me from the Little Dot Mk2. It was time to find a headphone amp that supplied more power, so i looked around at many and settled on the Audioromy 6v6 since these tubes have been around for many years 1930s. It has 12 Watts per channels driven into 4 or 8 Ohms and has a switch to drive a pair of speakers or Headphones. On the Headphone output several sellers have responded to me that it has 500mA at the jack. I cant seem to find that it in writing anywhere. If my math is right, 500mA should be 500mW of power at the jack? That's half of 1 Watt? However i can tell you that it is plenty strong and the best part is that it plays my low impedance 32 Ohms as well as my highest 300 Ohms Sennheiser HD600 to very high volume levels, i can't go pass 2 O'clock on the dial without risk of going deaf. So my Grados, Beyerdynamic DT1990, Sennheisers HD600, HD58X Jubilee, many many others to list. As for running planar magnetic headphones, its tricky, some songs pulls in very good, other songs that i know for a fact should sound great, it doesn't but that has always been the case with tubes. Simply put, Planar Magnetic belongs with Solid State applications and Dynamic Drivers with both Tubes and Solid State. I have tube rolled and am closely settling on the current below:4 Tung Sol 6v6GT Russian Made Power Tube2 Gold Lion Gold Pin 6922 Russian Made1 Western Electric 396A NOS Vintage (expensive but worth the money) dated 1962I also have 4 RCA Jan crc 6v6GTY NOS 1940'50s that supply more power, more bass, mids and treble than the Tung Sol, but for Dynamic Driver HPs i find the Tung Sol 6v6GT to sound more refined all the way around, warm and rich unlike the RCAs brighter color.I connected the Audioromy 6v6 to my SVS Ultra Towers and it runs them fine, my SVS Ultra Towers are hard to drive since they are 88DB, this Amp calls for 90-91DB so if you are running shelf speakers, this amp will suit you well.I am very impressed with this amp and have no regrets making the purchase but i have no direct link to the manufacture in case there are problems down the line. The seller advised me id have to reach out to him, send him the amp and in turn he sends it to the manufacture for repairs. P.s I have other tubes coming for more comparisons but its going to be hard to top the sound i currently have. Its a keeper.Update" 10-15-2018I am still tube rolling, if you want micro detailing purchase this combo listed below:(4) RCA Jan 6v6GTY (vintage)NOS (more power than the tung sol in mids, bass and treble)(2) Russian (Voshkod) 6n1P-EV Gold Grids (NOS)(1) Russiam (Voshkod) 6n3-E Triple Mica (NOS)You will hear every instrument played, no matter how light it is played, it will be at front even while a lot is going on, you will be able to hear every strike of the cord or drums. I am listening via Beyerdynamic DT1990 Pro headphones. This is for the audiophiles that want extreme analytical listening. Listening through my Monolith M565 Planar Magnetic, the sound treble is more tamed down but still very detailed and one can listen for a very long time without any ear fatigue. I jam hard with my m565, and i am analytical with my DT1990.If it is to bright, swap out the 6n1p-Ev Gold Grids for the 6n1-EV non gold grids. It will be still very detailed but a tad more natural sounding.Update: 12/15/2018 for Wide Sound Stage.Quad Gold Lion 6v6GT Russian madeTwo Gold Lion 6N1 (6922) Russian madeOne 6N3P-E (5670) Russian made.Headphones used = Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro. (Best sound yet)
