VallejoMetallic Colors Model Air Paint, 8 bottles X 17ml

As others have pointed out, the description on this page is misleading. I received the 71.174 set, which is the smaller of two sets that Vallejo calls "Basic Colors" Model Air: it contains three "primaries" (red, medium yellow, and blue), a convenience color (olive green), two shades (black and white), and two "metallics" (silver and gold). Only the gold and silver are "metallic" paints, which means they are thicker, opaque, and glossy. The other colors are "flat" rather than glossy. The colors mix well with two caveats: the blue is a staining pigment (maybe Phthalo??) and easily dominates mixtures; the black is a gritty pigment and in thin washes you might see clumps of pigment. The primary colors are relatively transparent, so it's very difficult to paint light over dark. When I applied these with synthetic paint brushes onto resin models the non-metallic colors required multiple coats. The paints are self-leveling, but a light sanding between coats is sometimes helpful. I like how the silver can be mixed with the non-metallic colors to produce a glossier, more opaque version of the latter.

When attempt to do perfect work you need the perfect paint for the job and that paint is from Vallejo air paint line that is made to work with an airbrush right out of the tube.No more priming paints. I’m not gonna argue. It works great.

These ARE better metallic paints than the Reaper or Citadel versions I have. They also don't separate out from the medium on the palette as quickly as other brands. I did a little research via YouTube Gurus like Uncle Atom, Dr. Faust and Miniac (and others), and Vallejo is almost universally lauded as the best miniature-specific paint producer.It is sometimes hard to decode specifics about some paint lines, but these "Air Paint" series are thinned with flow improver to make them work better in an airbrush. As it turns out, they make for better brush paint as well, because they are pre-thinned, and that is the mantra you always hear about mini painting: "Thin your Paints". Everybody wins with the Vallejo Air paints, Metallic or otherwise.Also consider it took me a while to understand that Vallejo has two lines of paint in several categories: "Model Color" and "Game Color". The Game Color lines have more Garish toned colors for fantasy/Warhammer type figures, where the Model Color lines have more realistic colors I associate with historical wargaming. The Game Color lines are also more easily compared to Citadel Paints--there are comparison charts online.

Although the colors are good and the brand one of the best ones, the colors are not metallic.Only the gold and the silver are metallic ones.I tried the red on a spoon before painting my Optimus Prime, and the red is opaque.So I will need to buy another redn and another blue.

Even though it says metallics, this is a great set of paint and it's fairly cheap compared to others you can find around. Plus, the two metallic paints it brings are of amazing quality (although my gold is a bit runny)
