Can these speaker be placed on their sides?

They can, assuming you use rubber "feet" to prevent vibration transfer to a flat surface. However, I do not recommend it. These speakers are very sensitive to physical placement (angle to listener, height, distance from wall, etc). BR03s are wonderful speakers that punch far above their price point. (My experience is they need 30 - 40 hours of break-in and they really shine!) Proper placement is important to achieve their full potential. Hope this helps.

Can someone verify the height of the product? i'm getting confusing numbers that vary from source to source.

Mine are 15.0 inch tall, 8.13 inch wide. Depth is 11.85 inch for the box, plus 0.25 inch for the magnetically attached screen, plus 0.60 inch for the connectors on the back. Source: my tape measure.

Will these speakers able to plug into a Sony Turntable system without an amplifier?

These are passive speakers which means they don't have amplifiers built into them. You need to look for active speakers that have a "phono in" RCA connection to play albums on a turntable. Triangle makes the BR03 as an active speaker but, are much more expensive then the passive BR03. They also make the Triangle LN01A Wireless Bluetooth Bookshelf Speakers which are more affordable. You might also look at the Edifier brand of active speakers, they are very affordable. I have purchased two pair for friends & they really like the sound. I would also add that I think my BR03 speakers have the best sound I have heard from a passive bookshelf speaker & I would guess their active speakers sound very good as well. There are many very positive reviews of these speakers online.
