Hello! It should work, as long as it doesn't get too much direct sunlight. If it's a particularly sunny area, you could try reindeer moss, which does very well in sun or shade. If it's a shady spot, most types of moss will work. Sphagnum does grow tall, however (up to 6"+), so if that's concerning, your might try a shorter moss or a variety pack.

Yes! I have mine in an apothecary jar with a seal. It grows like crazy. I’ve been cutting it back like grass and then let it grow again.
