Best Textbook I Ever Bought
Upon reading reviews for the two Intro to Linear Algebra books that my professor required I decided to seek out an alternative. Not only were those two books awful but the professor I had for this class was the worst I ever had. Confused, hard to follow teacher who had an accent that was incomprehensible. Do not confuse that with 'She had an accent'. She literally could not speak english. Even the TAs had no idea. Most of the class failed and had no help from the books provided.I, however, managed to get an A with ease and not because I am some sort of genius either.. This book could not be made in a more perfect way. Every chapter and section is designed in a way to ease you into the material getting gradually more complex as it proceeds. There are plenty of easy to follow examples that gradually get more complex as you go. He always provides real world examples and makes this one of the few math textbooks I have had that was actually enjoyable to go through. If you need to learn linear algebra buy this book.

Fantastic for the Autodidact
This book is one of the best math books I've owned. The author has wonderful prose that serves to illuminate an idea rather than obfuscate. The proofs are done for humans, not robots pretending to be human. Derivations are made before being used as if out of nowhere (Lay). The organization is much more appropriate and natural unlike Lay. The only complaint is it doesn't have a lot of problem sets. But for conceptually grasping the subject, look no further.

Pretty Good for LinAl
The true test of a math book is whether or not you keep it around for future reference, and this has been on my bookshelf for the last two years.Unlike some other math books (and, heaven forbid, higher level physics books) that I have had the dubious pleasure of slogging through during my time at a math and science college, you actually know where the problems are coming from in this LinAl book. They provide copious examples, examples upon examples, and the problems in each chapter are drawn from them, mostly verbatim, with a few numbers changed. A few might find this tedious, but I was so goddam happy to finally know where to find the information that would help me learn the material and finish my homework that I didn't care.Pros: Lots of examples, LinAl is taught competently, if not excitingly.Cons: Price. This book was assigned the year it was published, so no used copies existed. I think the college system and the book publishing industry are in cahoots.

Linear Algebra explained Non-Linearly
Being a Mathematics major in college it's no surprise that I was required to take the course that uses this textbook. Throughout the class, the professor rarely made mention of the book except to give us homework problems to work through on our own. If you ever had a question, the textbook was not the source you wanted to rely on. The way they organize the examples doesn't truly make sense; it's more of a maze of numbers and decimals. Most will buy this book because it's required for their class, but if using this book as a personal reference there are better sources than this. Only reason I did well in the class was because the professor took his time to explain a lot of things the book barely glanced over, or just threw at you without mention of an explanation.Overall, if you're forced to use this book then talk to your professor. Don't hope that this book will be able to fill in any blanks that the professor may have missed. You will find them, but it'll take you at least 20-30 minutes to identify precisely what they are referring to. Be careful with this book, it has too much information crammed into too few chapters and/or sub-sections. It's one of its biggest shortcomings.

Excellent for Teaching Your Self LA
The kindle version keeps the printed page format with all the figures and comments. I'm using a Wacom Cintiq 22HD pen display with stylus and Adobe Illustrator to work the exercises and take notes by hand. If I need to draw a graph I use the line tool with the stylus and set snap to grid. I can check my work with the trial version of Mathematica 9 CAS. It works great! I needed a book to help with learning math required for DirectX programming. Verth's "Essential Mathematics for Games and Interactive Applications" is a great book but it doesn't cover the basics of Linear Algebra in enough depth for me. This book offers proofs of theorems and plenty of exercises to practice and ingrain what you've learned. If your interested in computer science and don't know linear algebra, I recommend this book.

Easy to read and understand
Solid introduction to intermediate-level Linear Algebra. Easy to read and understand, but definitely isn't as deep or difficult as O. Bretscher's textbook, which my class actually had to use. I used Poole as a much-needed supplement to Bretscher, which it did a pretty good job as.

Not bad as a Math Text Book.
It is a pretty useful text book. I would like more worked out examples. That is what seems to help me out the most. Not too bad as a math text book, though.

Great Linear Algebra textbook that I had to use for ...
Great Linear Algebra textbook that I had to use for my college textbook. For the most part, very clear when explaining topics and the homework sets are excellent to reinforce understanding of the material.
