Almost an excellent resource
Why not just plain Excellent?Because I obtained it as an ebook and there are no page numbers! Not even the digital numbering for which I don't actually understand but at least those say something more than "page 1 of 1" on every page in this book. It's important since this is basically a professional book and I might want to cite it including page numbers. And I don't think APA has an explanation for books w/o page numbers. According to Amazon help desk, it's the author's discretion to allow for page numbering. This is the only ebook of the few hundred I own that is w/o any form of page numbering.Aside from the above, the book is complete with well documented examples of concern with various forms of unsubstantiated psychotherapy techniques. I would, though, add to what the authors mention and note that even therapy programs with "evidence based" styles are often very weak evidence of success. For example, when asking patients to rate their improvement, you are doing no better than many product commercials asking if they love the car that you've asked them to sit in with a camera on them. Also, there are many psychotherapies that claim evidence based techniques, but their testing is only between their style and doing nothing for the patient. But that doesn't tell us anything as to whether it is the best therapy for the type of patient in question.Regardless, the book is quite helpful for students of psychology and practitioners. But authors, please update the ebook and add page numbers!

There's a tremendous amount of pseudoscience in this book! (and, in this case, that's a compliment).
With so much pseudoscience crammed into one book, it's challenging to be optimistic about psychology. This edition includes two new chapters on child-focused issues (attachment & antisocial behavior), and pseudoscience used with children is especially disturbing. The second section of the book (Overarching Controversies in Psychological Treatment) was also very troubling to read, as it even challenged some institutions, practices, and psychologists that I have always respected.Fortunately, there is enough science is this book to give me some hope for the future. I especially enjoyed the chapter on Novel Unsupported Therapies (they respectfully used the acronym NUSTs, when a more parsimonious acronym seemed appropriate). It was really interesting to read about how the two authors of this chapter were, at one time, proponents of some types of pseudoscience. I liked how the book includes many recommendations for moving toward a world with less pseudoscience. Even if you've read the first edition recently, the second edition is a must read!

Great book!
I'm a therapist and I love this book!! Too much woo woo quackery out there! I am a huge fan of Scott Lilienfeld. I have been in the business for 30+ years and learned so much. This book is a must for all practitioners but especially those starting out.

Great resource
Very useful information on established and/or evidenced-based treatments for barious childhood and adolsecent conditions. I also liked data on non-established and/or harmful treatments for various conditions discussed.

Required Reading for All Clinical Psychologists
This book should be a standard text at undergraduate level and required reading for all clinical psychologists. While it takes aim a some low hanging fruit (DID and recovered memory for example) it's not afraid to tackle issues such as the scientific credentials of EMDR, which for some unfathomable reason is a pseudoscience that receives little criticism within the profession. Improving the credentials of a profession that, in the UK at least, claims to be "scientist-practioner" can only be a positive thing and this book is a fantastic first step in the right direction.
