The Mustang (2019) [DVD]

Good movie to enlighten about the plight of wild horses.
While I think this movie has flaws, it is extremely uplifting to see a movie about the wild mustang. It is important that as a Nation that overlooks and cares less about the most important things in Nature sustaining us all, that its consciousness be raised regarding the plight of an American Legend, the Wild Mustang. Everything on behalf of the big ranchers in Nevada, have been thrown by our BLM into killing off this wonderful mystique of the American West. M. Pickens, the wealthy ex-wife of the legendary Boone Pickens of oil wealth and fame, has been devoted to the protection of the Mustang breed in Nevada, and she has erected a memorial, and a sanctuary for the Mustang, including a lodge, near Ely, NV, to establish this. While at every turn, she has been harassed by the BLM and threatened, she has persevered to stop the senseless and cowardly murders of the Mustangs by big ranches to ensure that their beef cattle are not competing for the Grassland for Feed. As a member of a community, bordering Mustang herds roaming the BLM lands, and a local Rancher, with a heart of gold, who allows them to drink from his Cattle Well, without molestation, every season I see our little Mustang herd, thrive, with more babies this year, given the heavy rain, than ever. There is nothing like going out into your back yard and hearing the hoof beats of these beautiful creatures, running thru the desert, past your property, and out into the "Great Wide Open" (courtesy of the fabulous late Tom Petty's lyrics/music). Sad, but very little Public awareness of the Mustang's plight.

Fine, deeply gracious film.
When this movie was released in the theater, I did not have the opportunity to see it on the big screen which I prefer. My friends said the movie is tender, a bit violent, deeply moving of a man's struggle with himself, his daughter, redemption, a wild mustang. Though the film presents the plight of America's wild mustangs (which I support), it is not preachy. Fine acting from every single actor and non actor. You will cry a bit, laugh a bit and rejoice. Fine, fine acting. Please, see the movie. You will not regret it. The ending is triumphant in a quiet, subdued way. Also, make sure you watch the ending credits as there is a coda.

Code was already used!
Took away a star for lack of being able to access the digital code. I saw this movie at the theater and enjoyed it so I pre-ordered it on video. I was excited to redeem the code as soon as I received it but the message said it was already redeemed! HOW? It was new and just released! I contacted every department I could and each just acknowledged that it was already redeemed but they passed the buck. I am now still waiting for a reply from my report directly to Universal. The window is closed to return to Amazon but I don't even know if I could have for this reason. Any help out there? Very frustrating!

Very realistic
Very good movie. My partner is a former felon. I watched with him. I have a horse farm. The scenes are realistic. He even answered some of the questions before the prisoner answered them. Like “How long between the thought and the action?” Horses do help. I have stallions not mustangs but they work the same. 1200 lbs doesn’t necessarily cooperate and can pick you up and throw you if it wants to. They can also take a limb off or worse. He knows this and they know it. They teach people to control their emotions. When they do you have this incredible animal walking calmly at your side.

The beginnings of Reformation and Redemption for a man
This movie has horses in it but let's be clear, it's not a movie about horses. This film focuses on the themes of redemption or at least the first steps to it. If you're looking for a typical feel-good film this probably won't satisfy you very much. It's a story about hope and being forced to look yourself in the mirror and accept the flaws you see yet still finding a reason and a way to better yourself. And if you are a fan of Matthias Schoenaerts' work and how he acts, you'll love this movie.

Expected more
Was a fair movie for the most part but I expected more &!parts of the movie dragged on very slow, plus some of the aspects of horse handling were not to my taste, I know it’s a movie & they say they protect the animals but I still don’t like seeing this type of scene. I’ve seen Matthias Schoenaerts in movies with horses before and he has some talent with them. So I expected more from what I saw in previews. As a horseman myself I was very disappointed

This movie is based on an area of the prison system out west that I knew nothing about.
First of all I have to mention that I will watch anything that has Mattias Schoenaerts in. He is an excellent actor and chooses interesting movies to act in. "The Mustang" is almost a semi documentary with a fictional character "Schoenaerts" character I am assuming is fictional. However, I gather that some of the character roles were played by and based upon real characters. I loved this movie and have watched it twice. If you like serious movies about interesting aspects of society and life you will like this movie........LD
