Fluke177 True-RMS Digital Multimeter

i bought this because of the Fluke long running reputation...it comes with a good instruction manual that is easy to understand...no problems so far and i expect this to last a lifetime based on that reputation.it replaces a foreign made voltmeter that just stopped functioning one day. This is expensive but nothing is worse than having to stop mid project because of inferior tools. Buy once cry once

Been using Fluke meters since the late 70's. This meter agrees exactly with my almost 50 year old Fluke D800. Shows how well the calibration remains valid! Very happy with the new one. Only comment is the stiffness of the test leads especially in the cold... And, it's not made in China!

I'm so glad I finally sprang for a Fluke meter. My old Radio Shack model was giving me very unreliable readings, and was very slow. This thing is extremely fast and I have to assume accurate. I use it for home electronics work -- measuring AC and DC current, voltage, continuity, and so forth. The build quality is excellent.There is a very similar model for automotive use, but it doesn't provide accurate measurements for very small voltage and current, so not appropriate for electronics work.There are also two other models in this line: the 175 which is just less accurate as far as I can tell, and the 179 which also offers a temperature sensor.It's a little hokey the way the stand snaps against the main unit - sort of an uncomfortable friction fit -- and even when extended there isn't really a point where it snaps or cleanly stops. It feels cheap but there may be a good reason they did it this way, perhaps it stands up better to heavy use and is less likely to break.I also think it would have been nice to have an ON/OFF button, rather than have to rotate the dial all the way around to the left every time you want to turn it off. There is an auto-off feature so you can just not turn it off if you want, though you'll use your battery up faster.The leads that are provided are not premium - which is unfortunate considering the price of the device. The wires are just not as pliable as I'd like, in that they want to retain their folded-up shape. So I have ordered a set of more expensive replacement leads.Also they don't provide any sort of alligator clips or any other attachment for the leads - just the bare metal points. So again, I had to order those separately.I'm still giving this five stars because I really love it ;-)

My (very) old Fluke Model 12B had finally developed a creeping obliteration of its LCD screen and although the battered case was still intact, I felt it was about time to act interceptively and replace it. I have purchased numerous cheapie meters to augment my Fluke but always used it as the Standard by which they invariably, came up short. I like RMS accuracy and bells and whistles like capacitance, auto-ranging and frequency measurement. The Model 177, also offered current measurement, seemed like the logical upgrade, and the numerous "extra" features clinched the deal. No need to go a step higher, I'm a tinkerer, not a research engineer.Much shopping revealed an Asian version of the 177 that was a bit cheaper but hinted at being of lesser quality and lacking the Fluke warranty. This made me decide to check carefully and Buy American, even though I know that electronic components are sourced world wide.I decided to go with "the best" and am happy that I did so. My "Assembled in the US of US and Foreign Components" (it says so right on the case, and sports a code #) performs beautifully and although pricey, I now have an instrument that I can rely upon for as long as I need it. Okay, I may spring for a better probe set in the future, but there was no discount for buying it at the time and I am a little shy about "package deals" and chose to stick with a straight Amazon purchase with a traceable warranty trail, just in case I ever need it.Would I buy it again? Well, yes, but barring an uncontrollable disaster, I don't expect to.

I have used to check 12v and 120-240v circuits. Works nice.

Meter works perfectly, but the leads are some of the worst I've ever gotten with any multimeter. I know that Fluke does provide nicer leads with other meters. At almost $400, I'm not sure why this doesn't rate a better set. You may as well just assume you'll be buying a set when purchasing
