Can this be used only once?

I'm actually not sure, I bought it as part of a first aid kit, luckily I didn't have to use it yet! But I believe it's a one time use item, due to possible contamination

Does this work for children and adults?

Yes it does. I taught my Cub Scouts CPR, and some of the dads learned, too.
