You need this for the Zombie Apocalypse

I bought this for my disaster preparedness kit. l love that it is sturdy and quite versatile. In a pinch, you could use things other than sterno to cook with this. I used my Trangia alcohol stove as a proof of concept. One could use sticks in it, if one needed. This is the really important part. Coffee. You see, I cannot exist without coffee. Well, actually that is not true. --> I <-- can exist without coffee, but anyone who has to be around me does not want to live through that. So, I must have coffee. In a power outage, when my house is all electric, this is a problem. I have a Coleman propane stove, a propane single burner unit, and a propane grill. However, in an extended outage, one can burn up a good deal of propane, and those stupid little canisters are not cheap. I could use a larger propane tank, with some adaptation, but that is inconvenient, and the propane still is not that cheap. I decided that the most cost effective way to go, since I don't have a fireplace, was to use an alcohol stove. That led to me buying a Trangia stove kit. I LOVE that thing. But there is one problem. Yes. The coffee. The way the Trangia kit is designed, I can't just throw a percolator on it. So I either have to use a backpacking stove, make French Press coffee by boiling water in my JetBoil or other gas-powered arrangement (defeating cheap alcohol burner approach), etc., or I need something that will support my percolator. This is the kind of thing engineers sit around and think about when the power is out for extended periods, in case you wondered.Enter the Coghlan's Folding Stove. I can throw my alcohol burner inside and my percolator on top. Tah dah! Coffee. If a mountain blows up or we have the Big One (eathquake), and I am stuck for days, I can even use sticks when the mineral spirits, Heet, and any other burnable fuels are all gone. I can have coffee, even during Armageddon. I suppose I could even cook food with this, if I had to. ;)Great for throwing in the car for emergency kit on road trips, camping, and just because it is a fun little stove. In fact, I think I am going to buy a second one so that I can leave it in my car. C'mon, have you never watched Survivorman???I considered buying the Sterno brand folding stove, but after reading reviews and looking at this one in stores, the quality of this stove sold me on it. I am very happy with it. It's a great addition to my disaster preparedness kit and is just handy to boot. Glad I bought it.

Very Compact

Easily fits into a backpack....roughly one inch thick and seven inches square when in the box. There are no instructions, but it's easy to figure out. The only problem I had was lifting the canned heat holder into the the two tabs at the same time. I finally got both tabs into the two slots. It's very sturdy when assembled.

Packable and functional stove

I already own a smaller, feather-light aluminum version of this product. While the smaller one is easier to pack and carry, it lacks the notable sturdiness and substance of this Coghlan stove. The Coghlan weighs more and is bulkier, but on uneven ground or dealing with wind, this foldable stove manages better. It is also perfectly designed to fit canned heating products better than my ultra light aluminum stove does. And it also balances my camping messkit a lot easier and with more balance. The only issue I noted in my particular stove was that the tiny swinging door is a little lopsided and takes a bit of coaxing to properly latch shut. The lopsided angle also means it sits a bit off center, but only fractionally.Overall, I am very satisfied and happy with this product and would gladly purchase another.

Useful

This greatly increases the cooking fire of canned heat.I decided to use gel canned heat as an emergency cooking tool. After testing it on a camping trip, it worked alright. I had set it in a bowl with a grid to rest my backpacking cookware on. When this went on sale during the October days, it was finally a price I was willing to pay... and it was well worth the investment. It increased the flame and significantly cut cooking time. The device itself is aldo quite sturdy.Cons would include the fact that the smooth cooking surface does lend to sliding if it's not set level. Also the price... it was definitely worth the $11 sale I got it on, would even be worth $15, but the regular price of $20 seems a bit excessive for such a small and simple piece that only allows use of canned heat and has the above mentioned sliding problem. Another potential con would be the weight - it is a bit hefty when considering what to pack for a hike or an emergency bag.

Coughlin sterno stove

I bought this to replace one that was worn out. These work great with sterno. They folded flat and don't take up a lot of room. Highly recommend to people who lose power a lot or preppers.

I WOULD CERTAINLY RECOMMEND THIS!

In Septemeber 2024 western North Carolina experienced something we never had before. Hurricane Helene blew across the mountains washing away people, houses, roadways and whole towns. Although the damage where we live was minimal, we were without power for a little over a week. Our only cooking source was a kerosene heater that my husband adapted to be able to warm up soup on the back porch. Luckily the weather was warm and clear but we realized we needed a safe way to heat up emergency food inside our house. This little stove is a great addition to our emergency supply closet. It is sturdy, light-weight and easy to use. I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a way to warm up or even cook basic food during an emergency.
