Tesla Coil Lighter, First Impressions! (Full review to follow after a month or more of use)
This was the cheapest price I could find on this lighter, only $21.75 Shipped! Every other online listing I could find for this device was $30 or more. I received it 5-days after placing the order & everything was as described. Ive only been using it for a few hours but so far this thing ROCKS! I mean its a lighter that produces a F-ING PLASMA BEAM FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! If you're a Star Wars or SyFy fan in general, how could you not be in AWE over this awesome little device, but I digress. The fact that these are manufactured in China doesn't exactly instill a lot of confidence regarding the build quality & QT (Quality Control), however China occasionally surprises me with decent quality devices at very reasonable prices, so I'm hoping that's the case here. The finish on it is quite nice but as with most glossy finishes it scratches VERY easily, so keep that in mind if you store it in a pocket or bag with loose change or whatnot. I would recommend keeping it in your 5th pocket by itself, however if your going to put it in a back pack, hand bag or purse then I highly suggest you put it into the little velvet pouch that it came with first, that way the finish will be protected from change or other loose items. If scratches on the finish is a concern, then you could always buy a clear vinyl LCD screen protector & cut it to fit the Tesla lighter, just a suggestion. So far I'm pretty impressed with this Tesla Coil Lighter, however this is essentially just a first impressions, only time will tell how good the tech & build quality is in the long run.MAKE SURE TO READ THE SAFETY WARNINGS! This device is so simple to use that it doesn't even need an instruction manual, however it comes with some Safety Warnings that you should ALWAYS KEEP IN MIND! I'll just cover the important ones:DO NOT keep the flame lit for more than 5 seconds at a time. First off, I just want to clarify that this device DOES NOT produce a flame, it produces a Plasma Arc Beam, so I'm not sure why it says "flame" in the safety manual but I digress. In regards to the proper use & longevity of this device I think this is probably the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT THING to keep in mind. Plasma arc beams produce a significant amount of heat & energy, so if this device is only designed to handle that heat & energy for 5-seconds at a time, then you would be VERY WISE to heed that advice. I noticed that several of the bad reviews on this device (which are few & far between) seemed like they could very possibly be user error & NOT a defect of the device. I'd bet money that most of the "Mine died in 3 days" or "Worked great for a week & then stopped working" reviews are because of user error & NOT a defect of the device. Now don't get me wrong here, even with the best QT there's always an occasional defective unit, however I strongly suspect that user error is the main cause in a lot of the bad reviews. I can just imagine zealous people getting these & immediately chucking the Safety Warnings in the trash, then ignorantly use the device improperly by continually firing it for over 5sec, WHICH IT IS NOT DESIGNED FOR! Then when the device stops working they call it a POS, leave a bad review & then expect a replacement or refund for their own ignorance. You know certain people (Pyro's) will be firing these things like CRAZY, burning as many different materials as possible just to see what happens. Now I completely understand wanting to experiment with these & see how the plasma beam effects different materials, however its not very difficult to READ THE SAFETY WARNINGS FIRST, use the device PROPERLY & ALWAYS DO THINGS RESPONSIBLY!In a nut shell: DO NOT FIRE THE BEAM FOR LONGER THAN 5sec AT A TIME & DO NOT OVERCHARGE THE DEIVCE! When the Red Charging Indicator Light goes out UNPLUG THE DEVICE ASAP! Follow these two VERY SIMPLE instructions & you should enjoy your Tesla Coil Lighter for years.Another important Safety Warning:DO NOT LET CHILDREN GET A HOLD OF THIS DEVICE. These devices are essentially tasers, so if bare skin contacts the plasma beam it will burn the area & send a shock through your body (NOT A FUN EXPERIENCE!). There is a YouTube video where a guy has a similar plasma lighter & he touches the beam with his bare finger, needless to say he quickly regretted it. So if you have kids & especially rebellious teens, KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR TESLA LIGHTER!

Tesla Coil Lighters™ - Great Concept!
Being in my mid 20's I thought I was on top of the new gadgets and gizmos churning out of Amazon. I was never really much of a smoker or candle-lit dinner type of guy. So this product was but a tiny blip on my radar. Admittedly, I ordered this because I thought this was a really slick lighter that I thought was made by Telsa (of Telsa Motors) or at least a subsidiary company. This is made by a company called Tesla Coil Lighters™. Before I sing the praises of this device in general, I just want to point out some things to people interested in buying this product. First, as I mentioned before, it's not made by Tesla Motors- obviously. Second, it's made in China-not sure if that's a con or not. I've heard of Chinese e-cigs blowing up in peoples' hands/faces. But this has been on the market and there are enough positive reviews to reassure people like me that this will not blow up in your hands. Third-and this is a big deal to me- the product has not gone through any certification/testing by independent labs. You know those weird symbols you see on the back of mainstream electronic devices? The UL, CE, EMC, FCC and/or CSA stamps on the back of devices? Usually paying for these reassurances is for consumer confidence in the safety of the electronic device but it also will drive up the price of the product. My issue is that I'm a little concerned with the lack of certification AND the fact that it's made in China. There is also NO company webpage. That doesn't make me feel any better. This is basically a knock-off of a tried and true arc lighter. Can't say which as I haven't been following arc lighters since they debuted, but all those worries aside.... I really liked the lighter I got and here's why.The concept itself is genius! Let's compare this with the alternatives. Matchbooks use matches and rely on phosphorous on the red strip adhered to the cardboard booklet. That runs out and you will eventually have to throw it away. Zippo lighters use lighter fluid that evaporates, is messy to fill and eventually will need replacement flints and wicks. Butane lighters just require butane fuel. And while that fuel does not evaporate in the Thunderbird Vector Lighter Insert - Regular it is extremely pressurized in your reservoir and the reservoir is pretty small. So if you smoke a lot it might not last you too long. With this device, there is no disposable. Well.... I mean, you can count the battery I suppose. But you won't have to worry about a battery replacement for YEARS to come. As long as you practice good charging habits. The manuf. recommends not charging past the 2 hr limit (when it's completely dead) or stopping the charge as soon as the LED indicator turns green. One thing I personally like about arc lighters is that there is no "dirty fuel" that has to be burned to produce a flame to light something you will inhale from. There is also no flame. It's pure electricity! Now you don't have to worry about buying triple-filtered butane or premium lighter fluid when you light up your smoking sticks. I know some of you smokers don't care about that fancy filtered fuel. But for those of you who bought the premium stuff out of fear of gunking your lighter's injector, fear not. The battery also is claimed to last for 100-300 "lights."There is something really important to keep in mind though, folks. You need to condition yourself not to treat this as a regular lighter!!! You might use a flame to light a cigarette, cigar, candles or to heat up a spoon to melt wax or what have you. A lighter, you can use safely on any non-explosive material. With this lighter, it's an electric arc. You cannot use this on materials containing or touching metal, wet materials, or anything else that can conduct electricity. I don't know about you guys, but these arc lighters resemble traditional flame lighters too much for me. I've never accidentally used this on metal and shocked myself because I usually am very aware whenever I plan on using it. But what about in emergency scenarios? What about times when I am preoccupied and need to light something quickly? I don't want to take that chance and electrocute myself or someone else who uses it. The battery is so small and voltage pretty low so it won't kill a young, physically fit person with no heart conditions. It's of no fault of the company that makes the device so that's why I did not deduct any stars for that. (I only deducted a star because of the lack of safety certifications). Another thing I want to point out to people. My friend saw me use this and he warned me about looking at the arc. He was raised around the warnings about not looking at the light when around arc welders at construction sites. It is okay to look at the electric arc as you light your cigarette or candles. It is not like looking at the sun or staring at the light emitted from arc welders where you can get permanent eye damage. So fear not.

WOW! This lighter is a TANK!!!
I bought this for my son in law for Christmas. He accidentally left it in his pocket and it went through the washer. Not only was it still charged, IT STILL WORKS JUST FINE. We were very surprised. Thank you for making a quality product. I would highly recommend this lighter to anyone. Great value, great size and VERY durable!
