They are a wonderful way to help gain confidence in music reading
I have the three of these books. My four years old is almost in Suzuki book 2 and a little behind in reading music. The "I can read music" book does not explain much and she cannot listen to the rhythm to confirm if it is correct. These books were a life saver. They are a wonderful way to help gain confidence in music reading. I use combined these books with other music reading books. However this one is one of my favorites. My daughter can play the notes while listening to the recording. The recording could be played as slow or fast as she needs. She is tuning her ears at the same time as she is gaining confidence in reading music. They also motivate my daughter since they have well known songs that a child can play very soon. They are comprehensive enough and They have good information and a good amount of songs. The font is larger than most reading books and easy for a small child to read. With the access code located at the front page of the book you can order the CD-room in the case your internet is slow. The price is very affordable. I would give ten stars!

good
I'm giving it 5 stars because it is exactly as described. It's the book my son needed for his orchestra class at school.

A great series!
This series of three books are excellent for adults who may have played Violin in the past and want a quick way to catch up and move well past their previous competency level. I last touched a Violin 30+ years ago and only in the first position. This was easy to understand and with great exercises. The series goes from the real basics in book one into third, second, and even fifth position by book three. Simple but very practical and great fun.

Awesome book series!
This book and the ones in the series are just great for beginners! I took a few violin lessons but I am basically having to teach myself. Easy to follow and the CD is great! If you are new to the violin, get a book with a CD. I'm still on book #1 and have been for the past 2 months. I finally busted out the CD and wow, why didn't I do it sooner! So helpful to hear the music and then play along and alone. Helps a lot and you really start to learn how to train your ear. I would highly recommend this book and #1 and 2 in the series.

Comprehensive, light and just what I needed.
I like that the book had links to go online to order a free CD or use the available resources with the Essential Elements website. It is a good book with exercises to learn 2nd, 3rd and 4th position. It goes through the key scales on the violin with finger patterns for all of them. Great book for people who have finished book 2 or want to review the fundamentals.
