Great for homeschooling your preschooler!
I bought this book for homeschooling purposes. Unfortunately I live in an area where preschool isn't available to everyone, and I didn't want my son to go into kindergarten unready! I tried on my own, with only workbooks to work with, but it didn't "feel" right, something was missing. STRUCTURE. I was flying blind and all we were doing was working in fun little workbooks. This book is GREAT! I breaks it down every day, so you can use it straight as a lesson plan! We use the workbooks to suppliment, since this book doesn't teach writing letters or numbers. This book is mainly filled with learning activities, hands-on activities and games about a different subject every day! I LOVE it! =)

LOVE these so far
I run a daycare and bought these books to help guide our daily activities. I've only been using it for a few weeks, but love it. I also bought the Daily Curriculum book co-authored also by Pam Schiller, who helped write this one. They have a lot of similar things, but enough different that I kept them both. There is lots of ideas in the book for kids with varying interests and it's made planning educational stuff a lot easier for me.

Preschool 101
Like most of these books I've purchased this is geared more towards a professional, brick and mortar preschool. But thats not to say there isn't a wealth of information for the homeschoolers or parents prepping their children for school. It lays everything out from an actual hour by hour schedule to activities and all of the mudane details most of us would overlook. Most of the activities are beneficial and geared towards basic level self exploration, basic knowledge and would benefit the average 2 to 3 year old child. I would've liked to have seen morr academics included but everything included here is useful and essential! Great value!

Excellent resource for working with children
This resource book contains detailed lesson plans for preschool education. You can take an activity and tailor it to fit your schedule, or you can follow the lesson plans exactly. I purchased this book to find educational, fun activities I could use with kids. This book is perfect!

Preschool planner, not very helpful for at home use.
This may be a great planner for running a preschool, but there are probably much better books out there for at home use. I was looking for a book that had detailed activity ideas for me to follow to "teach" my 2.5 year old through educational play activities like painting, pretend play, etc. This book is about how to set up a preschool and run it on a daily basis. It goes through how to best set up a preschool with morning circle, learning centers, story time, music and movement time, and then closing circle. The focus is mostly on learning centers and how to corral the kids by giving them name/photo badge necklaces with three color spots on them that correspond to activity stations where they play for a bit then rotate to the next area. All the ideas for a day are on one page. One irk I have is that every day starts with a materials list that is far from complete. Another is that they learning center ideas are so basic. I need details, I'm no expert, I don't want to learn through trial and error what works for each activity, I'm not a preschool teacher and will not be doing this year after year. It is also geared toward a group of kids and several activities do t work as well or at all with just one kid. Here is one day as an example:On turtle day the materials list says only: photos of turtles.Morning circle uses the photos to introduce turtles, and tells you to talk about how they hatch and go to the ocean along with a couple other talking points. These points are not detailed, so if you don't happen to know a lot about it, you have to look elsewhere for info. Turtles are pretty straight forward, but for instance, the last talking point it says "Explain that turtles are an endangered species. Talk about why."Next it gives a book recommendation of a book (not listed under the materials heading)Then comes the music and movement recommendation. "Invite the children to race each other as the move like turtles, carrying boxes on their backs." (Boxes not listed in materials)The rest of the page gives ideas for six learning centers:Blocks: have kids make obstacle course and pretend they are baby turtles and go through it (What kind of blocks, giant ones to climb over or small ones to make more of a track? Blocks are not listed in materials)Language: Help the children write letters to their congressional reps asking them to help protect sea turtles. (It is preschool, likely ages 2-4, they are going to need a LOT of help writing their own letters. I question the age appropriateness of this one. )Construction: invite kids to paint paper bowls as turtle shells. Glue on paper legs, tail and head. (None of these items listed in materials)Sand and Water Table: provide small plastic eggs for children to bury like sea turtle would. (Eggs not listed in materials section)Fine Motor: reef maze- invite children to maneuver a paper turtle through the reef maze (what reef maze?)Science: provide photos of sea and land turtles and encourage kids to describe differences and similarities. As you can see, some stuff is great, but I'm new at this, I need more details. One last thing, index isn't straight forward to me. I closed book, then opened it back up, went to index to figure out what page turtles were on, and there wasn't a turtle heading under T. I finally found it, under A-animals-turtles.All in all, in maybe a great book for someone, just not me. The author does have a book called "The complete book of activities, games, stories, props, recipes, and dances for young children" that I checked out of the library several months ago that I recall being more along the lines of what I need, I've requested the item again and will purchase if it is more in line with what I need.

Hope to be helpful
I purchased this book as a gift to a Mongolia preschool teacher in the Northwest, remote region in China. The teacher is a young Mongolia lady determined to become a good teacher. She is also eager to learn English. I hope this book is a good resource for her and will check with her on feedback in the future.
