Yes it is important to the game. Red and green wellies are separated and one colour is used for the boards, the other goes upside down on floor or table. 3 wellies are chosen and placed on a board and then the remaining ones are turned over. Either use red wellies as the ones to place on the board but then the green ones (which match the other foot) are placed facedown. The idea is to find a matching pair. It helps with a child's memory as to where they last saw a match. A bit like playing 'Snap'

Q: Is this suitable for a 4 year old girl with autism to encourage social play

Yes, I have used this in a classroom with 4 and 5 year olds. They enjoyed playing together and discussing the patterns. I think that pairing the wellies definitely helps social interaction.

Orchard toys replace any lost pieces. Contact their customer service dept, info should be on the box or leaflet that came with the game. I'm a teacher and use Orchard games, one of the best things about this company!

I bought it fir a three year old. I would say 3 to 4years would enjoy if the child enjoys this type of game.
