Only Drawings; No intructions or tutorials...well one page ?
The book has many - very good portrait ; representations ; but the ad suggest instruction ???What it is ; a showcase of black and white images; a page of pencil hatching and the like.I believe; a more accurate tile; would be- Pencil Portraits ; renderings of beautiful young ladies.Be-well,

Should be advertised as: "photographs & pencil by numbers", without the numbers"
Hmmm..... If you want to learn how to draw portraits with (graphite or Color) pencils, don't buy these books. The author (Miguel Angel Molina) is not selling "How to" Art books, he is selling "How to" trace photographsand Hype. Each woman has been photographed and then the author simply scribbled over each photographs with tracing paper & pencil. 90% of the head-shots are 3/4 views and shot with the "light source" coming from the top-right or top-left corners..... never explaining to the reader about the crucial importance of lighting .... nor does he mention which pencil technique he used on any model.... or that he uses a white-highlight pencil & "shading stump" (or his fingers) for most of the blending.Actually, there are virtually no instructions at all. The "Young Women" book gives a quick (and very poor) explanation about graphite pencil tonal range and textures. That's it.On Amazon, the book is advertised as giving "Work Methods" instructions. My book has no "Work Method" instructions. The "paper quality" used is very poor for an instructional art book. The inside paper is so cheap it's difficult to clearly see where a model's nose ends and her upper lip starts ... or where the jaw ends and the neck starts ... etc. etc. Each head-shot has a "duplicate". These duplicates are so washed-out (mostly due to the cheap paper), they are useless and a complete waste of space. Instead, the author should have offered multiple angles of each model, along with varying expressions. He also should have given a written explanation about the light-source and how it effects shapes and shadows. So, why did I give 2 stars instead of one? The 2 stars are for what I don't have but the author does.Which is: Use of a photography studio and a contact list for many various people/models.(snapshots or selfies from a smart-phone are not good enough). If your feeling ambitious, you can scan the book pages into your computer and then adjust the contrast & brightness. Doing this, you can bring-out just the highlights or mid-tones or shadows.... which will help you to really see the shapes and angles, shadows & highlights of each face.I do not recommend these books to a novice or beginning artist. I have been a Freelance Illustrator for many, many decades, so I "see" with ease. There are plenty of very good instructional "How to" books out there. Here are just two of my favorites:1. The Artist's Complete Guide to Facial Expression..... by Gary Faigin ISBN: 0-8230-1628-52. Drawing Human Anatomy........by Giovanni Civardi ISBN: 0-289-80089-7I don't even recommend Mr. Molina's books to other seasoned artists... unless you understand that you are *only* buying photographs (on cheap paper) that have been traced by the author .... and that you will probably need to scan each page into your computer (a time consuming pain-in-the-ass) .... and that these books are falsely being advertised as great "Instructional" Pencil books. That said, I think *if* the author wants to continues to sell these books, he should drastically drop the price and advertise them for what they really are: ***Photographs & Pencil by Numbers, without the numbers***

A useful teaching tool for intermediate level value study on portrait.
From the reviews, I think people are confused about this product. It is a workbook with a collection of generic digital portrait images intended to help you see value better. It is a teaching tool, like a notan app but in a print format, so you can do the value study right there on the adjacent page in the workbook. The activities in this workbook are designed for someone who already has an established understanding of drawing principles and is looking specifically to enhance their perception of subtle value shifts. For this reason, I did find this workbook to be a useful resource and wanted to leave a fair review. The AI is cringe-worthy, no doubt, but unfortunately this is the way of the future. For the price of the book, again, it is a useful tool to learn generic concepts. Nothing more. Use it as a tool and go on to make your own masterworks of original drawings from there.Yes, there is only one page of written word in this book but again, this book is not for a beginner that needs visual language translated into verbal language. If you are fluent in visual language this book will help you.

There are no instructions
The title of theses series of books is false. None of them give you a tutorial, just a collection of drawings.
