The chess pieces aren't magnetic, and there are no storage slots.
The set is ok for beginners, I got it for my young children but the post is a bit misleading since it isn't magnetic, nor does it have any 'clean and tidy' storage compartments.

Chess/Checker grid is vinyl sticker
Please note it's not wooden grid. It looks like engineered wood with vinyl sticker. Overall it looks good, but if you are looking for a wooden grid this is not the one. It's a suitable gift.
