Don't make the same mistake as he did
My dad is a major diy freak, but he often springs for the cheap tools instead of the professional ones. He came over cause my AC was running warm, and his subcool and superheat numbers from his cheap gauge was all over the place. He often put too much refrigerant, then pulled some out, then had to put some back. It was a mess, and he didn't leave me feeling confident in the job. I ended up calling a professional to top it off again. My dad's cheap gauge resulted in him taking more refrigerant out of the unit, then putting more in. The tech ended up charging me 1k to top off 2 units. We bought another house, and started to experience warm air again. but instead of calling my dad or a tech, I decided to wing it, buy the tool all the professionals use, and learn to do ac maintenance myself. With the help of YouTube, I think I mastered the basics. I ended up fixing the issue. I had complete confidence in the superheat and subcool calculations from this fieldpiece. I took my time with it and the results paid off. I even used it to check my car ac, and found it low on refrigerant in no time. Tool will definitely pay for itself in due time. Like every tool, there is a learning curve. But their are tons of YouTube videos to help.

great tool
I was hesitant when purchasing these due to the price, but was truly sold after the first time using them. I do light commercial hvac/r, and used to lug around multiple pipe clamps, thermometers etc etc. This tool replaced all of them instantly. I also got the JL3RH which syncs up with this, and can leave it down in wic/wif to get live box temps while I'm at the condenser. Several colleagues laughed at me when I told them I ordered this. I laughed at them after they checked it out on a job and they were all drooling. On board vacuum gauge seems accurate as it matches my bluvac pro micron gauge. The tightness test is fantastic, and probably my favorite aspect to the gauges. It records the pressure at the time you turn the feature on then starts a time and shows "pdif" over the duration of your test very clearly revealing presence of leaks. The bag it comes with is alright, but it is not a hard case by any means. It is handy for storing the clamps and temp sensor. I found it cumbersome to put the bag on the gauges with the clamps attached so began storing them separately.I got caught on a roof in a heavy downpour the other week and the manifold got wet, but I managed to get it into the bag quickly and back into my van. The bag remained damp for awhile (once at my van I removed the manifold), and the manifold was clearly wet, so wiped it down and I turned it on and it worked and has worked fine since. I wouldn't recommend getting it wet repeatedly, but this was a concern when I purchased it given the environment hvac/r work is done in.I did notice a slight flaw in the display when I first powered it on, and I was considering returning it. It looked like a burst pixel or something, but the next day I didn't notice it anymore. I have seen it since, but only at odd angles; it isn't visible when I look at the manifold directly so shrug - I'd rather not give up the gauge sending it back and such when I don't regularly notice the flaw.Attached a photo of the manifold in use, think I have another with the JL3RH and second pipe clamp in use, but can't find it atm, will upload it if I find it later. The amp meter in the picture is the a3001 fc with iflex, and is another item I fully endorse and can ramble on about how great it is.

Hvac
If your hvac service tech/installer the 482v are a must have item, who knows what when and where the next refrigerant will show up.

Expensive but worth it!
So much easier! No more calculations, simply reading subcooling and superheat.
